Afterwards, she attended finishing school is Pairs, but was unhappy, and dropped out and instead entered a specialist degree program in psychology at Bedford College, London which she was lucky to get into given her situation. At Bedford she was mentored by Beatrice Edgell. Afterwards she worked with Charles Kay Ogden. In 1927 she headed to America to study at Smith College where she earned her PhD in 1927.〔
